What a year! As we end 2022 and look forward to 2023, a couple areas we want to grow in is our community and our online presence. This brings us to the “Q News” Blog! We’ve started a new blog highlighting our Credit Union, our management, our products, members, and our city of Wichita. We want to be your go-to for information about everything from auto loans, to local events, local foods, and community happenings. This is a new venture for Quantum Credit Union; we are excited to see how this blog will grow, and how the year will shape out for all of us here at the Credit Union and in Wichita!

To help us launch this new blog our President/CEO, Chuck Bullock, sat down for a quick interview discussing the new year, upcoming hopes and challenges, solutions, and some of his favorite local spots! Enjoy.

  1. The year 2023 is almost here. Looking forward, what is the one thing you’re most excited about?

Being a part of a newly blended family that will help our credit union grow and prosper. Last year, EquiShare and Quantum came together in a partnership that other credit unions could only hope for. Now that the dust has settled, we’re beginning to hit our stride and it’s great to see!

  • A fresh look and feel of the Downtown office.
  • Taking action on reaching an underserved segment of our community.
  • Community engagement like we’ve never seen before.
  • New loan and share growth.

It’s all very exciting!

  1. What’s the biggest challenge facing the credit union world right now, and what are the methods to combat it?

An unsettled economy and the impact it’s having on our members and non-members. It results in inflationary pressures that strain family budgets, 401(k) plans turning into 201(k) plans, and employment shortages that lead to declining service standards. Consumer confidence has been shaken.

We can help mitigate the impact our members feel by staying focused. What separates our credit union from the rest of the financial services world is Care. If we focus on the basics and go the extra mile for our members – take time to listen, ask how we can help, and offer thoughtful solutions – we can not only add value to their membership, but help combat the anxiety that a challenging economy has on them.

Whether you’re serving members, or serving those who serve members, it’s important to realize that we’re all in the service business. Collectively, we can make a big difference.

  1. If you could add one thing to Wichita, what would it be? Why?

A beach!

Wichita has a LOT to offer. We’re a growing midwestern community that has a lot to be thankful for. However, during the winter, where do vacationers want to go? Warmer climates. The beach!

  1. What is your go-to restaurant or venue in town?

I’m a foodie and picking one place is T-O-U-G-H. So, let me break it down.

Breakfast – it’s HomeGrown for me. Great selection of traditional breakfast items, supplemented by some of their specialties, such as homemade Pop-Tarts and coffee cake. And, don’t forget the mimosas!

Lunch – it’s hard to beat Larkspur in Old Town. Good food. Good service. Great vibe.

Dinner (and venue) – Norton’s Brewing Company! Great outdoor area to hang out. Laid-back on the inside. An interesting, varied menu. Where else can you get bacon crack for an appetizer (yes, you read that right) and a PBJ for a dinner entrée? And, yes…..some very unique beverages on tap!

Can I add one more?? The Monarch in Delano. Oh yeah!!

  1. What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received?

A mentor of mine once told me, “Don’t be afraid to fail. And if you do, fail forward”. In other words, learn from your experience and work on improving. Failure in itself isn’t fatal, but failure to take action to get better is.

This is January of 2023 - can you believe it?! We have 12 months to meet our goals, resolutions, show up for our friends and families, and get some work (and play) done! Please follow us on our new blogging adventure, and don’t be afraid to suggest topics you’d like to hear more about. Cheers to the new year!
